About The Event

Presentation: Updating the Employment Handbook to Keep Your Company Current & Compliant

Your Employee Handbook protects you and your company by defining codes of conduct & company policies, while reinforcing compliance to current labor law. The employment landscape changes rapidly these days. Ideally your handbook should be reviewed and updated annually, if not more often.

In this session, Heather and Katie will talk about the most recent changes in employment law and best practices that should be reflected in your handbook.

Speakers:

Heather J. Hansen, Attorney & Shareholder at Bryant Lovlien & Jarvis

Heather Hansen focuses her practice in the areas of business, real estate & employment law. From 2009-2012, Law & Politics magazine named Heather “A Rising Star,” a distinction that recognizes outstanding lawyers who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement.

Kurt Barker, Attorney & Partner at Karnopp Petersen LLP.  Kurt Barker serves as Chair of his firm’s four-attorney Employment Law department. He is the current Legislative Affairs Chair and a past President of HRACO’s board and is a board member of the Oregon Employer Council’s Central Oregon Chapter. Kurt has been representing employers in all aspects of the employment relationship for 18 years, including counseling regarding terminations and medical issues, drafting handbooks and contracts, conducting anti-harassment and other trainings, helping employers avoid claims, and defending them before agencies and in state and federal courts.
